CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR | SPOILER FREE REVIEW

Thursday, May 12, 2016

Hello, everyone!

By the time you read this spoiler free review, I already watch the movie for eight times. Yes. You read it right. I live in Indonesia and we were so incredibly lucky because this movie, the long awaited, highly anticipated sequel from Captain America franchise, premiered on April 27th 2016.

Firstly, I have no idea how to start this review. This is might be the hardest movie to review because I'm very emotional, drown into feelings and I just...

So, I'm gonna start with this.

DARN IT, MARVEL!

The third and the last instalment for Captain America's stand alone movie, Captain America: Civil War is the perfect example for superhero movie. This movie reminds us why we love superheroes, why we love Marvel, why we love waiting a movie for years. Be honest with me, how long you've been waiting for this?

After coming back and forth to the cinema, only to watch this movie for eight times now, I'm safe to say that this movie is perfect. The best Marvel's movie ever. CACW is my most favourite Marvel movie ever. Like, the best of the best superhero movies I've ever seen so far! Perhaps, my all time favourite superhero movie.

If loving this movie is wrong, then I don't want to be right.

I probably need to stop ranting like a crazy fangirl and do my best to give you guys review about this movie. Here we go!

Directed by the Russo brothers, Anthony and Joe Russo (as well as Captain America: The Winter Soldier), CACW takes MCU to the next level. You don't have to worry to see much on trailers because you didn't. What you saw on trailers will be different from what you see in actual movie. It fools you!

Civil War is like a whole package about all the feelings how dazzling superheroes could be. It reminds us that superheroes have flaws and villain has feelings. Our favourite heroes up against each other because of political movement. People said this movie is all about politic, government stuff, heroes against heroes but for me, personally, I saw it about friendship.

Steve (Chris Evans) cherished Bucky (Sebastian Stan) as much as he loved their friendship, how Bucky was always be by his side in the past and now, his very best friend was in pain, tormented, under HYDRA control, he wanted to be there, to be on Bucky's side. He wanted to complete him like how Bucky completed him. All hails the feelings!

In the other side, Tony (Robert Downey, Jr.) for the first time trusted people beside Pepper, Happy and Rhodey. He obviously trusted Steve like how his father was, he loved Steve as much as he loved Happy and Rhodey. He needed Steve by his side! It hurt him so much when he knew Steve wasn't around, when he knew Steve was hiding something from him, when he knew Steve didn't share the same point with him.

In term of character development, I think every character has such a big improvement even the smallest part on this movie. Steve became more open minded and wiser. He has the biggest heart, always think before act. His character is always been one of people's favourite because of his kindness. Tony was more mature. He listened more to people, was trying to think on cold head, although his life wasn't in a good situation, he tried so hard to keep his priority right.

My big surprise is Natasha/Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) became less sarcasm and very wise! She knew that the Sokovia Accord was easy way to get people trust back but at the same time, she fully understood why Steve against it. She's growing up as my most favourite female character ever! Her mysterious smirk was definitely something to be scared of.

Scott Lang/Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Peter Parker/Spiderman (Tom Holland), and T'challa/Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), those three are new addition to MCU and also Avengers. I love how the Russo included them so well in this movie. They're fairly new but we won't forget how they took part in this movie. Ant-Man has already had his stand alone movie but his part in this movie was big enough to make us wanted more of him in Avengers (oh don't worry, we will!), his personality was something fresh on Avengers team.

I really love how the directors introduced Spiderman. Tom Holland is the youngest Spiderman, and the fact that Spidey was 'the kid' in this movie, his youth and nice personality made a big entrance to his stand alone movie. I can't wait for Spiderman: Homecoming! Last but not least, Black Panther, it amazed me how one new and I was hardly know this character left such a big perspective in this movie. His character reminded me so much to wise Steve is, how smart Tony is and how elegant Batman is! I know, different character from different comic but hey, whatever!
If you love action movies, watch this. If you're comic book lover, watch this. If you love both, watch this. This movie fulfil our dreams as both audience and movie lover to be able to live in superheroes world, to understand their point of view even you will understand the villain's motive!
One great thing about Marvel is they make their superheroes have flaws and their villains smart. The Russo brother know how to work on those. The villain in this movie, Zemo played Daniel Bruhl is smart and tough. His motive is very understandable although at some point, I wished I could see more about his story but what we saw on the movie is enough to make us forgive what he had done.

The story line and every character's motive explain why it called Civil War beautifully. Let me say this again, this movie is not about politic, not about government versus superheroes, this movie is about friendship for both parties.

The special effects, camera angles, lighting and costumes are very well done. I'm so surprise with how flawless the special effects are! One thing which is not very great is the soundtrack, nothing memorable, although it's nice enough to fill those scenes, but not that great.

It's safe to say that this is the best Marvel's movie so far. Proved that Russo brother capable to fulfil our dreams to live in superheroes' world, to enjoy their journeys, to understand their minds, and to feel their feelings. This movie is the perfect one to start Phase 3 in MCU!

That's what I thought. What do you think?

Thanks for reading! Xx.
